Elden Ring, the recipient of the highest number of awards ever attained by a single videogame, including multiple Game of the Year awards – a game which is now hailed as an all-time great and by many as the videogame of the decade – has continued to amass remarkable sales figures even two years after its debut. While its initial sales were strong, as expected of a game from FromSoftware, it’s only natural for sales to taper off over time. But unlike most games, sales for Elden Ring remained fairly impressive within the timeframe of last year with its sales reaching over 3 million copies sold.

However, with the recent official gameplay reveal of Elden Ring’s highly anticipated expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree, the game has seen a new resurgence in both sales and player engagement. Publisher Bandai Namco Entertainment recently announced that the enthralling open-world role-playing adventure had reached the staggering milestone of 23 million copies sold globally, which came out of a press release soon after the trailer’s debut.

The continued surge in Elden Ring’s popularity shouldn’t come as a surprise, considering the widespread acclaim it has received from various media outlets, tens of millions of players, online content creators, and a multitude of notable developers within the industry, with numerous of those same developers expressing their admiration for the game, with many expressing their desire to have their next projects emulate Elden Ring as a whole.

It has also become widely accepted by many that Elden Ring is not only the defining videogame of the decade but also a true modern classic.

Shadow of the Erdtree garnered an astonishing 62 thousand reposts on X within a remarkably short period, accompanied by over 147 thousand likes and an impressive 11 million impressions. These figures, however, only scratch the surface of the expansion’s recent digital footprint. Countless additional posts across various platforms received tens of millions of impressions and likes, further solidifying the fervent anticipation surrounding the game. FromSoftware’s preliminary announcement of the gameplay reveal trailer date generated significant buzz as well, amassing over 210 thousand likes and an astounding 28 million impressions.

On YouTube, the expansion’s debut trailer captivated audiences, garnering an overwhelming 441 thousand likes and surpassing 8.2 million views – a number expected to soar even higher in the coming days. These statistics serve as a testament to Elden Ring’s unparalleled appeal and its enduring potential for even more growth.

It’s evident that the game’s popularity shows no signs of waning anytime soon, leaving room for speculation about the potential future endeavors from FromSoftware pertaining Elden Ring. With such staggering numbers, it wouldn’t be surprising if the studio had in store some additional plans sometime in the future for Elden Ring beyond the forthcoming expansion’s release.

With all that said, the future for FromSoftware and the Elden Ring IP are looking really bright, and even more so for their dedicated players.
