Several Call of Duty developers have now voiced their discontent on social media following a lighthearted joke made by the beloved voice actor of God of War’s Kratos, Christopher Judge, during last night’s The Game Awards, with their frustration clearly deriving from prior experiences of crunch imposed by Activision during the development of their most recent game, Modern Warfare 3, as well as the overwhelming criticism received after its release.

Sledgehammer’s frustration stems from a prior reassurance made by their Activision superiors about them not having to be subjected to crunch conditions again, particularly after their experiences working on a previous project, Call of Duty: Vanguard, which was also very poorly received by players.

With this and the heavy criticism received after their latest game, which is widely seen as a subpar product, including a poorly made campaign mode (among other things) – their accumulated frustrations reached a breaking point after Christopher Judge made a playful joke which highlighted a key critique of their recent Call of Duty release – the notably short campaign mode, now recognized as the franchise’s shortest campaign in history.

These factors collectively served as the tipping point, prompting them to finally vent their long-held frustrations. Consequently, Christopher Judge emerged as an unwitting casualty caught in the crossfire at an inopportune moment.

With all that being said, many found themselves amused by Judge’s joke, especially considering its underlying truth. However, it also prompted some within the industry to question the actions of the God of War actor, branding him unprofessional for the uncalled-for joke.

Additionally, they were shocked that a fellow industry colleague would make such jest. Despite this, most online users seemed to find it amusing. Nevertheless, it’s unlikely that Judge would be considered for a voice acting role in a Call of Duty game anytime soon, though it’s doubtful that he was ever even interested to begin with.
